Understanding sleep studies and sleep disorders

Understanding Your Sleep Study

A sleep study, also known as polysomnography, is a comprehensive test used to diagnose sleep disorders. It records your brain waves, oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing, and eye and leg movements during sleep.

What to Expect

During a sleep study, sensors will be placed on your scalp, temples, chest, and legs using a mild adhesive. These sensors are connected to a computer that records your brain activity and other body functions while you sleep.

Common Sleep Disorders

  • Sleep Apnea - Brief interruptions in breathing during sleep
  • Insomnia - Difficulty falling or staying asleep
  • Restless Leg Syndrome - Uncomfortable sensations in the legs
  • Narcolepsy - Excessive daytime sleepiness

After Your Study

After your sleep study is completed, our team of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists will analyze your data and provide a detailed report to your physician, who will discuss the results with you.
